Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and other resort destinations. Penang is especially attractive for culinary professionals, combining heritage architecture, famous street food, beaches and a multicultural lifestyle. Malay, Chinese, Indian and international influences shape local culture, while English is commonly used in hotels and tourism. Living costs are generally moderate, although accommodation in popular areas can be higher. The lifestyle is warm and relaxed, with tropical weather, excellent food and convenient urban facilities. Foreign workers normally require an employment pass or relevant work permit arranged and sponsored by the employer; candidates should not begin work before approval. Relocation planning should include passport validity, medical checks, insurance, accommodation, transport and dependent arrangements. Malaysia’s climate is hot and humid year-round, with heavier rainfall during monsoon periods, so newcomers should prepare suitable clothing and budgeting for air-conditioning and utilities.
