Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, finance, technology, healthcare, logistics and retail. Its multicultural society blends Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences, reflected in its festivals, languages and outstanding food scene. Life is efficient, safe and highly connected, with excellent public transport and convenient access to housing, shopping, parks and beaches. Costs can be high, particularly rent, although public transport and local food are comparatively affordable. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work pass. The Employment Pass is commonly used for professional roles, while the S Pass and Work Permit apply to eligible skilled or operational positions, subject to salary and quota requirements. Applicants should secure a confirmed job before relocating, check pass eligibility with the employer, arrange accommodation and budget for deposits, healthcare and daily expenses. Singapore’s warm, humid climate suits outdoor living, though air-conditioning is common.
