Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a vibrant coastal city and island territory with strong opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, finance, retail, technology, education and international business. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions with global influences, reflected in food, festivals, arts and fast-paced urban life. Residents enjoy excellent public transport, diverse dining, hiking trails, beaches and convenient access to neighbouring islands and mainland China. English is widely used in professional settings, while Cantonese is valuable for customer-facing roles and Mandarin can be an advantage. Foreign employees normally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer before starting work; applicants must demonstrate suitable qualifications, experience and a genuine position. Employers commonly assist with the application, although approval is handled by Hong Kong Immigration. Housing is expensive, so candidates should compare salary, service charge, benefits and commuting costs. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, insurance, banking and a local mobile plan.
