Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, modern island city with strong opportunities in hospitality, engineering, facilities management, technology, finance and healthcare. The culture is multicultural, with English widely used alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Life is convenient and generally safe, with excellent public transport, reliable healthcare, diverse food and many shopping, nature and entertainment options. Housing can be expensive, particularly near central areas, so newcomers often share apartments or live farther from the workplace. Foreign employees normally require an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an S Pass or Employment Pass; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and government requirements. Employers usually guide successful applicants through the application process. Before relocating, candidates should confirm the work-pass type, medical coverage, accommodation arrangements, transport costs and whether the employment package includes relocation assistance.
