Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with excellent public transport and easy access to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Hospitality jobs are widely available in hotels, restaurants, catering, events and tourism, particularly in Central, Admiralty, Tsim Sha Tsui, Causeway Bay and resort areas. The culture combines Cantonese traditions, international business and a fast-paced urban lifestyle. Rent can be high, although public transport is efficient and staff accommodation or meal benefits may sometimes be offered. Foreign workers normally need an approved employment visa sponsored by an employer before starting work; eligibility depends on qualifications, experience and a confirmed job offer. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, insurance, banking and an identity card after approval. Cantonese is useful, while English is common in international hotels.
