Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, highly connected city and territory with a distinctive blend of Chinese traditions and international influences. Although often associated with Hong Kong Island, the wider region includes Kowloon, the New Territories, and numerous outlying islands. Hotel, restaurant, tourism, retail, finance, technology, and professional-service jobs are widely available, though competition can be strong. Cantonese is the everyday language, while English is common in business and hospitality; Mandarin is also useful. Life is fast-paced, efficient, and urban, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, hiking, beaches, and vibrant cultural events. Rent can be expensive, so staff accommodation or housing allowances are valuable. Foreign nationals normally need an approved employment visa sponsored by an employer before starting work. Applicants should confirm salary, service charge, accommodation, medical coverage, and visa support directly with Shangri-La.
