Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, retail, technology, aviation and professional services. The city’s hotel industry is international and values candidates with language skills, customer-service experience and the ability to work shifts. Cantonese is widely used, while English is important in business and tourism; Mandarin can also be useful. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, dense urban districts, international food, shopping, hiking trails and beaches. Housing is expensive, so employees should compare staff accommodation, housing allowances and commuting costs before relocating. Most foreign professionals need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, and approval depends on qualifications, experience, a confirmed job and market salary. Applicants should arrange a valid passport, medical or background documents if requested, and secure accommodation after visa approval. Hong Kong’s subtropical climate is hot and humid in summer, with cooler winters and occasional typhoons.
