Destination Guide

The UAE is not an island, but it is a popular Gulf destination with major opportunities in hospitality, tourism, aviation, finance, technology, retail and construction. Dubai and Abu Dhabi offer the broadest employment markets, while other emirates provide a quieter lifestyle and growing tourism sectors. The culture combines Islamic traditions, Emirati heritage and a highly international population; modest dress and respect for local customs are advisable. Lifestyle options include beaches, desert activities, shopping, dining and year-round events, although summers are extremely hot. Most expatriates work under an employer-sponsored residence visa. The employer normally arranges work authorisation, medical testing and Emirates ID processing; employees should not work on a tourist visa. Relocation packages may include accommodation, transport, medical insurance, flights or schooling, but these vary by contract. Housing and private education can be expensive, so candidates should review benefits carefully before accepting an offer.
