Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology, finance and business services. Popular island destinations include Penang, Langkawi, Tioman, Redang and parts of Sabah, while Kuala Lumpur is the main urban employment centre. Life is generally affordable compared with many international cities, although rents in central Kuala Lumpur and resort areas can be higher. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business and hospitality. Island living provides beaches, diving and a relaxed lifestyle, but transport, healthcare and shopping can be more limited. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass arranged before starting work; the company must meet immigration requirements. Applicants should confirm visa eligibility, accommodation, medical coverage, taxes and relocation support directly with Shangri-La.
